We talk about how fast our hosting is all the time, I know. Particularly our highly optimised WordPress Platform. So it should come to me as no huge surprise when I witness incredible speed statistics for sites that we host.
However, I put together a simple landing page using a full screen image, and a simple content element, with nice colours and design, for a new client. I wondered if the full screen image would slow the page down beyond what would be acceptable. You could have blown me over with a feather when I saw the results in GT Metrix when I tested the URL for the page.
Less Than Half a Second
According to GT Metrix the average On Load time is actually 6.0 seconds. That's not great, but they would know the average speeds better than anyone I guess. I'm generally happy with anything up to 1.5 or even 2 seconds for a heavy page. This landing page I created with a full screen image loaded in under 0.5 seconds. Less than half a second!
One thing I always check when reviewing the speed of a page is the TTFB (Time To First Byte). That's when the server has received the request and started sending data back to the browser. 77ms for this page on 365i WordPress Platform! 77 milliseconds. That's 0.078 seconds, if I round up.
That's simply astonishing!
See the rest of the timing there for yourself. If you've got a WordPress website hosting anywhere but 365i, you must either have your head in the sand, or like your content delivered slowly for some reason?
